(Seeking Compatible Picture-Makers)
Every night, as they gaze up at the stars, each of these stories wishes for the very same thing ...ย
... to someday fill the pages of a picture book. But first, they need to find the right picture-maker who will bring them to life.ย
Below is a sampling of each story (click the title to listen), along with its profile bio. If you think you fit the description of its ideal partner, e-mail me and Iโll pass along your info. ๐
๐ Once Upon a Spaceย
Um ... hi. I'm just going to come right out and say itโI'm an aspiring picture book with insecurities. Lots of them. I have a bad habit of comparing myself to others and concluding that they are somehow better than me. I like to make a point of pointing out my own flaws, probably because deep down, a part of me thinks that if I'm extra critical of myself, then maybe it won't hurt as much when others judge me. I haven't found this to be particularly effective, yet I keep on doing it anyway.
My ideal partner is a picture-maker who understands what it's like to feel "less than," but who chooses to see things differently. Someone who can illustrate how the very things we perceive as flaws can sometimes be our greatest assets.
Oh, and ideally, they would be good at making cute, simple drawings of animals. Especially elephants.
๐ Have You Seen It?
Have you ever felt like something was missing in your life, but you didn't really know what it was? Or maybe you thought you knew, and then you went out and got that thing, but afterwards you still felt like something was missing? Well, that's the story of my life. And, incidentally, also the story of the sheep whose tale I tell.
I am seeking a picture-maker who can bring to life the epic adventures of a little sheep who embarks on a worldwide quest to find this "missing thing." Someone who has a playful, quirky styleโand isn't afraid to show it.
๐ A Book Inside a Book
Allow me, please, to introduce
Myself in rhyme, like Dr. Seuss
I'm multilayered and whimsical
And some would say, atypical
Humour is my favourite tool
To teach the things not taught in school
I'm looking for somebody who
Can illustrate in this way, too
๐ Which One Are You?
I am not your traditional picture book and I'm technically not a story either. I have no beginning, middle, or end, but I do have characters. In fact, I am entirely made up of characters (as are you, in a sense). I can be read over multiple sittings (facilitated by my Table of Contents), but my character portrayals should be read in order, at least for the first time.
I am fairly independent, but I can see the value in partnering with a picture-maker. I'm not looking for illustrations to complete me, but rather to complement me. Not in the sense of praise (watch those homonyms), but in the sense of pairing well with my words. I am seeking a highly creative illustrator with a vivid imagination. I want to see what these characters actually look like!
